In art we are making "op-art." The op in "op-art" stands for optical, as in optical illusion. It's really cool! Mrs. McCallister showed us a video with optical illusions. Some of them were colorful and some were just black and white. My favorites were the black and white ones.
We were watching the video because we were making paper weavings.
First, we got a piece of construction paper. Then we folded it in half. We faced the folded side to our chest and then took a ruler and put it on the side with the edges (the opposite side of the fold). Then, we got a Sharpie and traced a line. We took a pair of scissors and cut a squiggly, angled or curved line up until the Sharpie line. We repeated a couple of times until there was no more room. Then we opened the paper.
We went "shopping" for weft strips. Weft strips are evenly cut pieces of paper. The construction paper that we just cut was called the loom. We took a weft strip, then put it under a line on the loom. Then we pulled the weft strip under and repeated.
It was fun!
