The first is a traditional MCAS test. This test consists of released questions from last year's MCAS. Most of the questions on this year's test will be similar to these. The second packet is a PARCC test. This test was created for children to practice PARCC. The state has decided to include some PARCC-like questions in this year's MCAS. We gave third grade mathematician's practice time with both types of questions so they will not be surprised during the test tomorrow and Thursday.
I reminded third grade mathematicians that faster does NOT equal smarter. While taking the test, they should take their time and use ALL their strategies.
Please ask your third grader to teach you about these strategies:
1. Read the questions more than once.
*If you still don't understand, break the problem down into chunks. Read and think about one sentence at a time.
2. Circle key words in each question.
3. Read all the choices.
4. Cross off the answers that are obviously wrong.
5. Show your work. Don't solve problems in your head!
6. Double check your work.
