Every student in Room 221 should feel proud of their report card. Every scholar in this community is doing remarkable work! They work hard each and every day and they are making tremendous progress!
Please remember that it is not our goal that all children receive 4s. A 3 is an indication that a child is doing grade level work - work that is appropriate for third graders. This is an achievement for which your children should feel proud!
According to Needham Public Schools, to receive a 4 children need to:
*consistently and independently have no major errors or omissions regarding simple or complex ideas or processes that were explicitly taught AND
*perform, make in-depth inferences, and applications that go well beyond what was taught or expected
Third grade scholars should be proud of 3s. Our third grade curriculum is very rigorous, so even 3s are not easy to come by.
Please don't be concerned if you see 2s (or even a 1) on your child's report card. Although this is evidence to me that a child has more work to do in a particular area, it is not a cause for alarm. We all have work to do in areas of our life. None of us our perfect, so I don't expect third graders to achieve perfectly. Having said that, please know that I am not ignoring those grades on the report card. When I give out a 2 (or 1) then I see it as my job to help my students make progress so they can achieve the grade level standard.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a wonderful winter break!
