homework philosophy
- The purpose of homework is for students to: practice and reinforce skills learned or reviewed in class, develop good work habits and study skills, promote a sense of responsibility and self-discipline, and improve time management skills. As part of this practice, students are expected to check their own folder and put it in the appropriate tray.
- Everybody forgets things on occasion. However, it is important that children develop a sense of responsibility for their homework. Children are expected to turn in their homework each Friday. If children do not, they will write me a missing homework letter. Students will bring the letter home where it should be signed and returned to school the next day. If children habitually forget to complete or return their homework, we will work together with families to find an appropriate time for students to make up the work.

2. Read each night for at least 20 minutes.
- Children can read independently. Alternatively, older family members can read more sophisticated books aloud to children. This helps develop comprehension skills.
- Children should record their reading on their reading log. This log should be returned to school each Friday. The same log will be returned to the students on Monday. When a student's log is full, the student should bring a new log home. Alternatively, a new reading log can be printed by clicking on the above link.

assignment notebooks
Third graders will record homework in their assignment notebook each Monday. Please help your child remember to check their assignment notebook at home each evening. Although the information will often be the same, there will be different information noted periodically. Students may even want to check off each assignment as it is completed. Checking their assignment notebook is a good habit to develop early.
