We had an amazing week in Room 221. We had read aloud. We started a new read aloud and guess which book... it’s “Because of Winn Dixie.” You said it was one of your favorites. I can’t wait to tell you about it.
Winn Dixie is so funny. He made the whole class giggle. My favorite part is when Winn Dixie catches a mouse, he gives it to the preacher and when the mouse tries to get away, Winn Dixie puts his paw on the mouse’s tail. When I imagined it in my head like a movie it was even more funny. I think “Because of Winn Dixie” is my favorite read aloud so far.

School is really fun this week. In Writing Workshop we are writing literary essays about a book called “Frog and Toad: Alone.” A literary essay is a piece of writing the explains a thesis. A thesis is a big idea or opinion that you can support with details and facts about the story you are reading. When you are writing literary essay remember to:
Add important details from the text and important is a KEY WORD.
Use the words “This shows that...” to explain your thinking.
Explain your thinking by using examples from the text.
When you know you wrote a literary essay:
Check your work by rereading your literary essay and check for incorrect words.
A literary essay can make writing change the world!

This week in school was awesome in Room 221! In science we learned about atoms. We learned a song called “The Atoms Family.” (The tune is to “The Adams Family.”) We also learned what’s inside of an atom. Inside of atoms there are neutrons, protons, electrons and the nucleus. Did you know there are 25 million atoms in one pencil dot? I can’t believe it! Crazy, right?
In STEAM art we started to make our pop-up sculpture! We started making the sky. We learned how to color blend depending on how the sky looked. I chose to make a sunset so in the sky I made white, fluffy clouds and color blended pink, yellow, orange and peach. We talked a lot about the sky and Mrs. McAllister showed us some examples and some weather pictures!
