In Readers’ Workshop, we are starting a new unit! We’re learning about different authors. My favorite one is Andrew Clements. He wrote lots of creative and funny books. My favorite book that he wrote is Frindle. It’s about a boy that’s really creative. He once made his own classroom into a tropical island! And it’s called Frindle because he named all pens “frindles” but after a while he wanted to stop it, but it was way too late. It was already going across the country!
We are going to work to learn about the authors.

Our class started a new unit. In this unit, you learn all about an author. There was a book tasting for our class. We got to look at books by certain authors, then we rated them 1, 2, 3, 4 stars. After, you pick your top author. My first pick was Beverly Cleary because I liked “The Mouse and the Motorcycle.”
Her books are really funny just like Dan Gutman books. Dan Gutman was my second pick. I liked his book “The Kid Who Ran for President.”
I hope you think about reading one of these books!

Last week we had Math MCAS which was two hours long. It was the Math MCAS , so it wasn’t as hard as the other MCAS, but it was stressful because we had to show our work. So we couldn’t do it in our head. But worse, we had to explain work and show it which took a long time. For example, Kaly measured the two trees in the graph below. How much longer is one tree. Show and explain your work. I was worried I wasn’t going to finish in time. But I did.
When we were done we had mazes which were BIG. It took me a long time to finish one. After the mazes, we had a coloring book that had flowers, designs and more. I used orange, red, purple, green and yellow. Or, we could just read.

This week we studied about the past. England once had a king that wanted people to pray his way. But the people didn’t pray his way. So he sent some of them to prison and death. So some people went to Salem (what is now Massachusetts), but it was too crowded. So they went to Charlestown, but they didn’t have enough good water. So, then they went to Watertown. It had water, but it was crowded. Then they created Dedham, and it had good soil.
